After completing an undergraduate degree in Accounting at Bangor, Mike was employed by Midland Bank plc and then Libra Bank plc in the City of London where he gained substantial experience in Group Treasury and Project Management.
On leaving the Financial Services Industry, Mike returned to Bangor to
study for a MA in Banking & Finance. Upon completing his studies he was
appointed a Research Officer within the Institute of European Finance and
then the Nat West Lecturer in Banking & Finance. In 1998, he moved to take
up a post at Sheffield Hallam University and in 2001 he moved to the Isle of
Man at the operation inception of the International Business School where
he was Professor of Banking & Finance and Head of Academic Programmes.
Mike has also been an external examiner at a number of UK universities. His
research areas have included competition within banking markets and
offshore financial markets.
