Chartered Banker Institute Honorary Fellowship Awarded to Professor John K Ashton
On the 15th July 2016, Professor John K Ashton from Bangor University was nominated and elected an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute. The fellowship awarded by the Council of the Chartered Banker Institute, recognised a significant contribution to banking. The citation reported the wider contribution to banking education made by John through the academic leadership of the Chartered Banker MBA at Bangor University. Research contributions were also recognised in financial regulation and economics of banking, numerous policy contributions in the UK and beyond, and a continuing commitment to professional engagement.
John is currently a Professor of Banking at Bangor University undertaking a range of roles in teaching, publishing, editing and administration. John is the Academic Director of the Chartered Banker MBA, an innovative blended learning programme completed by over 500 bankers across the globe. This post experience programme has focused on developing professionalism, enhancing leadership, ethical practice and risk management amongst banking professionals. John is also editor of the Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance, a journal focused on the intersection between academic research and the practice of financial regulation, with distinguished past authors including senior regulators and academics, central bankers and even a prime minister. In his teaching, John has long striven to develop comprehension as to the failings and benefits of current academic and regulatory arrangements.
